Preparation Day Adventures
Honolua Bay
We took this P Day to head out to Honolua Bay! It is one of the premier snorkel spots on the island. You actually have to hike down through a very pretty jungle to get to the water. Since the hike goes across private property the owners have set up a little farmers market with fruits and vegetables and homemade crafts to buy. They encourage you to donate. When we made it to the bay it is completely full of rocks. So no sandy beach. You have to make your way out into the bay by climbing over all these pretty good sized boulders. It makes entering the bay a little tricky. Once we got in and it's a pretty good swim over to the best snorkel area. This area is so unique because of all the big boulders and coral heads. The fish were very large. Some species that I had seen as tiny fish were very large out here. I got kind of nervous because I have a big fear of sharks. So I was a little timid and nervous. Plus I always am nervous if we are snorkeling an area I don't know. I worry about a lot of things. Getting lost, getting attacked by something? A shark, an eel. We had pretty good run and then we swam back in. We sat on the rocks and as the waves got higher we watched people come and go. It got harder and harder to get in and out as the afternoon went on. Jeff had to go and help a group of older ladies who were trying to get in but they just couldn't make it and kept falling. They finally decided not to try it. I was a bit relieved. We enjoyed our time there and then we hiked back through the lovely forest to our car. The hike is just really a wonderful area, so pretty.
